Wilfrid Scawen Blunt

Born in Sussex in 1840, Wilfrid Scawen Blunt was an English poet, playwright and also worked with the diplomatic service, serving in Athens, Madrid, Paris and Lisbon. He was known for his opposition to British imperialism and his championing of Irish issues lead to his imprisonment for two months in Kilmainham in 1887. He travelled widely and in addition to his poetry, he published The Future of Islam in 1882.
