  Donald Crowhurst, 36 years old, married to Clare, father of four, inventor, businessman and amateur sailor takes part in the first ever single-handed non-stop sailboat race in 1968. Eight months after his departure, with only two weeks separating him from a hero's homecoming, Crowhurst's boat was found adrift in a mid-atlantic calm, intact but without her skipper.

  Log books found on board attested to two voyages undertaken. One of these was a fictitious circumnavigation of the globe. The second was the true account of an eight-month ordeal where he had kept himself hidden off the coast of Argentina having never left the Atlantic ocean.
